California gives immigrants driver's licenses (3rd & 7th)
Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill, which allows immigrants in the country illegally to obtain a California driver's license. Immigrant supporters have asked for the change so immigrants could drive without fear of being pulled over for a ticket, which could cause them to be deported. The licenses will carry a special designation on the front and a notice that says the document is not federal identification and cannot be used to prove eligibility for work or public benefits. Ten other states have passed measures to allow immigrants in the US illegally to receive driver's licenses. These actions reflect the growing support for immigration reform across the country, especially in states that have large undocumented populations. While this law does not change the status of many immigrants, it is a step out of the shadows similar to what the 1986 Immigration Reform Act did for many immigrants that were here before 1982. Do you think this will have a major impact on immigrants' lives? Do you think most Californians support this law, why or why not?
Many Americans will support this law because the majority of the U.S population are illegal immigrants. It also causes for immigrants to be less afraid of getting arrested and deported back to their original country rather than just have to pay a ticket. Its good that the U.S is trying to become immigrant "friendly".
ReplyDeleteI think that this will have a huge impact on immigrants' lives because it is one more step to them feeling safer, and having a license can make a large difference in anyone's life.
ReplyDeletehaving a license proves that the drvier is resposible and capable of following the street laws, being and illeagal imigrant or not. Imirgants are scared to drive because if the get pulled over with no license then the "illeagal conversation" will start with the police officer. well thats what i thing that they think..
ReplyDeleteAmericans will support this law because there's alot of illegal immigrants in the U.S. Immigrants won't get deported, they would just have to pay a fine. The U.S. is trying to be nicer to the immigrants.
ReplyDeleteHaving a license proves that their good drivers,it doesnt make sense saying that the roads are going to be more dangerous if they get theyre licence?
ReplyDeleteits good to know that the government is going to give licenses to the immigrants because then they will not be afraid to get pulled over and get a ticket and not have enough money to pay it and get deported and they will be able to drive to go visit family members from far away.
ReplyDeletejust because you are not a legal citizen does not mean that you are a bad driver which is exactly what a Driver's license states. Having a driver's license doesn't mean that you are a citizen.
ReplyDeleteif anything they already passed the drivers test soo that shows that they can drive
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that the bill was passed. This makes every immigrant happy, and know that they wont have to worry about driving. And people are going to support this because they have to, the bill passed and they cant do nothing about it.
ReplyDeletei think Americans will support this law because it will effect the country and make the country safer when they not afraid to deport and make the America to show the world to be friendly to immigrants.
ReplyDeleteI find it to be as a step forward for the immigrants that will eventually let them to prosper.
ReplyDeleteI think for immagrants just getting a lisence and it's not even going to help them
ReplyDeletewith work or public benefits is a tease because they're not even going to help
them to get pappers. Then again it can be a positive or negative for immagrants coming out and it can be a big step for them in the future.
this is going to impact an illegal immigrants life because a drivers licenses will make the immigrant feel more like a Citizen. Californians will most likely support this because there are many immigrants here.
ReplyDeleteI personally think it's good that the bill was passed only because there are so many immigrants that are trying to get there licenses even though they are not a citizens. I was only saying that because most of the immigrants are scared of getting pulled over and being deported. 10 other states have passed this measure to allow immigrants to receive their licenses in the U.S illegally.
ReplyDeleteIt's confusing that some states offer the chance for illegal immigrants to obtain a driver's license. If they were to get pulled over, would the license state the illegal immigrant status of the person? or would it be the same as any other license. If it does state the immigrant is illegal, would they be deported or let go? giving illegal immigrants some citizen rights but not actual citizenship is confusing.
ReplyDeleteThis bill will make an impact on immigrants because they will be able to drive without being afraid to get pulled over and turned into federal authorities, which could lead to deportation. I think Californians would support this law because there are so many immigrants here.
ReplyDeletethis bill would help immigrants and how they live now. they would be able to get places knowing that they are semi-safe. im pretty sure they would do their best as a citizen because they are given a privalige
ReplyDeletePassing the bill will help immigrants be a little bit more at ease, atleast while driving.
